Press Release
ALTON RESIDENT WINS NEW CAR AS PART OF GREEN DAY GIVEAWAY GRAND PRIZE
PACKAGE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ST. LOUIS, MO Sept. 29, 2004... KMOV Channel 4
and the St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership (The Partnership) are
pleased to announce that Brenda Kasten of Alton, Ill. has been randomly
selected to be awarded with the 4th Annual Green Day Giveaway Grand Prize.
This prize package, worth $21,650, will include an ultra-low emissions
2004 Honda Civic hybrid car, courtesy of local area Honda dealers, a year's
worth of MetroLink and MetroBus passes from Metro and one of the great
daily prize packages that were given to lucky residents on forecasted
green days throughout the summer. The contest is held annually by KMOV
as part of The Partnership's ongoing efforts to draw attention to our
region's air quality and encourage people to reduce emissions so we have
more good or "green" air quality days.
"I am thrilled but the reality of it hasn't hit me yet," stated Kasten,
who lives in Alton, Ill., with her husband Mike and sons David and Adam
and knows the importance of good air quality as one of her family members
suffers from asthma. "I heard about this promotion on the news and started
registering for the Green Day Giveaways on a continuous basis throughout
the summer. I didn't expect to win. I am excited and can't wait to receive
the prize package as we are all debating on who is going to get to drive
the new car."
The Green Day Giveaway promotion ran from June 7 through September 17,
2004, with prizes being awarded to randomly drawn winners each time Kent
Ehrhardt, Chief Meteorologist of KMOV Channel 4, forecasted a "green"
or "good" air quality day. Area residents had the opportunity to register
to win the daily prize giveaways, online at KMOV's web site, www.KMOV.com,
or by mailing a postcard to KMOV. At the conclusion of the season, KMOV
Channel 4 did a random drawing from the 31, 000 + cumulative entries received
to determine the lucky Green Day Giveaway grand prize winner.
GRAND PRIZE AWARDED TO ALTON RESIDENT FIRST AND FINAL ADD
Because the St. Louis region experienced one of the most pleasant summers
in recent history, there were a total of 88 forecasted "green" air quality
days, providing plenty of opportunities for area residents to win one
of the great prize packages throughout the season. With a value of $120,
each green day prize package included a selection of great items, ranging
from free passes for Raging Rivers Water Park and passes to ride MetroLink
and the MetroBus system to a "Green Day Giveaway" solar t-shirt that changes
color in the sun and a canvas tote bag.
The car and the rest of the grand prize package will be awarded to Kasten
at a St. Louis area Honda dealer in the coming weeks.
The St. Louis Regional Clean Air Partnership was formed in 1995, led by
the American Lung Association of Missouri, St. Louis Regional Chamber
and Growth Association, East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Washington
University and others, to increase awareness of regional air quality issues
and to encourage activities to reduce air pollution emissions. To learn
more about the Partnership call the American Lung Association of Missouri
