KMOV CHANNEL 4 KICKS OFF 4th ANNUAL "GREEN DAY GIVEAWAY"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Employers and Venues Helping to Spread the Clean Air Message
ST. LOUIS, MO June 4, 2004... KMOV Channel 4 kicks
off its 4th annual "Green Day Giveaway" contest on Monday, June
7, to reward St. Louisans for helping improve the air quality in St. Louis.
From June 7 through September 17, "News 4 St. Louis" Chief Meteorologist
Kent Ehrhardt will announce the winner of a prize package on every "green"
day, days in which the air is clean and easy to breathe. The Air Quality
Index, a measurement of pollution in the air, determines if the air is
"green," as opposed to "yellow" and the more harmful
"orange" and "red" levels.
KMOV Channel 4's "Green Day Giveaway" prizes include MetroLink/MetroBus
passes, a "Green Day Giveaway" solar t-shirt that changes color
in the sun, a "Green Day Giveaway" canvas bag, two free Raging
River Water Park passes, an umbrella, coffee mug and several other items.
At the end of the promotion, one lucky "Green Day" entrant will
be chosen at random to win a 2004 Honda Civic Hybrid and a year's supply
of MetroLink/ MetroBus passes.
Entries can be submitted online at www.kmov.com
or by sending in a postcard with name, address, daytime phone number and
age to KMOV Channel 4, "Green Day Giveaway," One Memorial Drive,
St. Louis, MO 63102. Winners are drawn at random and announced during
the 5 p.m. weather report on green days (5:30 p.m. on Sundays).
Poor air quality has hazardous health effects for all people, particularly
children, the elderly, and those with asthma and other respiratory conditions.
St. Louisans can do their part to promote clean air by carpooling to work,
using public transportation such as MetroLink and MetroBus, keeping their
cars properly maintained, and by using an electric or chimney starter
instead of lighter fluid when they barbecue.
The Air Quality campaign was established in 1996 by the St. Louis Regional
Clean Air Partnership (SLRCAP) to educate St. Louisans about air quality
and their role in improving it. SLRCAP includes KMOV Channel 4, the American
Lung Association, Metro, the RCGA, MoDOT, Laclede Gas, Citizens for Modern
Transit and RideFinders. KMOV Channel 4 creates Air Quality forecast for
the region, which is used by the EPA and all other media outlets.
