  1. Who installs the signs?
    Installation of signs is the responsibility of the property owner, except when on public property.
  2. When will I receive the signs?
    Signs will be available for pick-up approximately one month after the order is placed.  Signs which are to be installed on public property by the Streets Department will be installed in approximately the same amount of time.
  3. Where do I pick up the signs?
    Signs will be available for pick-up at the St. Louis Streets Department at 1900 Hampton Avenue.
  4. When will signs be installed?
    Signs will be installed approximately one month after the order is placed pending approval by the St Louis Streets Department.
  5. What will the sign look like?
    The sign is a 12” x 18” four color fiberglass sign with pre-drilled holes.  Click here to view the sign.
    If a sign is stolen or damaged, who is responsible for repair or replacement?
    In cases of theft or damage the business or organization who originally installed the signs is responsible for replacement.
  6. How do I install the signs?
    Installation materials are available on a number of online websites and at local hardware stores.  The materials needed, will vary depending on if the signs are being installed on a metal pole, a telephone pole, or a fence.  It is recommended that no more than 2 signs be installed on a pole and that they be placed at 7’ or above so as to avoid injury.
  7. Are there rules for installing the signs?
    Signs must only be installed on private property.  Recommendations on installation are listed above.  The Streets Department must be consulted regarding sign installation on public property.

  9. Where should I install signs?
    Signs are best located in loading zones or in areas where vehicles have been observed idling for extended periods of time.
  10. What if drivers continue to idle their engines?
    We ask that you kindly ask drivers who are persistently idling to shut-off their vehicles while located in No Idling areas, when weather conditions allow.
  11. Why should we install signs?
    Installing signage informs drivers to shut off their engines, protecting our air.  This will raise local consciousness concerning the hazards associated with idling and market St. Louis and your business as committed to public health and the environment.
  12. What if I want metal signs?
    Clean Air Saint Louis has chosen to utilize fiberglass signs in order to avoid theft.
  13. Is idling permitted in certain conditions?
    We understand that idling may be necessary in extreme weather.  Whenever possible we ask that drivers do their best to avoid idling, but idling during extreme heat and cold will not be penalized.
  14. Am I allowed to use the Clean Air Saint Louis logo?
    As a Clean Air Saint Louis partner, you are entitled to utilize the logo as a marketing tool, we ask that you follow the provided logo guidelines so as to protect the brand image.
