In this study, a group of healthy non-smoking adult male volunteers were exposed to various levels of ozone in a chamber setting. They were exposed over a 6.6 hour period of time while they mildly exercised either on a treadmill or a stationary cycle. The results show that exposure to ozone at levels often found in the environment in St. Louis while engaged in activity representative of a typical day of moderate work or play induced meaningful reductions in the lung function of healthy adults.
